The Labyrinth of Time: The Norn Scene in Götterdämmerung by Jeffrey Swann

The Norns, daughters of the earth goddess Erda, can predict the future. As such, they play an important role in the Ring cycle. Jeffrey Swann will analyze this fascinating scene from the standpoint of Wagner’s evocation of past, present, and future times. Mr. Swann will speak about the Norns, three magical beings in Wagner's music drama Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods), and play his own arrangement of the Norns' music.

The discussion will be followed by a performance of the entire scene in Swann’s own piano transcription.

Jeffrey Swann has performed all over the world with numerous major conductors. He has also lectured at the Bayreuth Festival and the Wagner Society of New York, among other societies. Mr. Swann is an international pianist who has performed with numerous well-known conductors.
